Following the 26th December 2015 floods, Flood Aid 1 was put together in the space of 10 days for the people of Calder Valley and beyond. People came together to sing, dance, tell jokes and have a very entertaining evening at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax. The event successfully raised £60k, which went straight to the Community Flood appeal.
Fast forward to Feb 9th 2020 and once again the Calder Valley became a raging torrent of water, this time seeing flooding in places that had never witnessed flooding of this extent before.
Floods with the strength and ferocity to move 60ft shipping containers downstream smashing into bridges and leaving behind a torrent of destruction. The HEART was ripped out of the Valley and actually the hearts of many of its residents, who once again, have had to muster up all their strength and spirit and get on with the clean up. Residents have been left feeling isolated not knowing where to turn to for help and assistance.
In a bid to help get the lives of those a ected back on track, Piers, Adrian and other locals have swung into action again and instigated plans for Flood Aid 2. Once again the event will be held at the Victoria Theatre Halifax (kindly donated by Calderdale Council) and the sta will work voluntarily on the night. All in an e ort to once again shore up the funds to support those a ected in the Calder Valley. Local graphic design company (Merlin Design Bureau Ltd) instantly created our fantastic new imagery and have already secured free program and poster printing for the event, and Zulfi Hussain MBE will again cater for all the performers backstage.
The evenings proceedings will have a diverse array of entertainment from a Mytholmroyd Amateur dramatics group (left homeless after the damage to their community centre), through to a Take That tribute Back for Good and singers songwriters and stars of TV. With the addition to the line up local group Eevah, (Nicole Hope-Smith and Halifax born Richard McNamara from the hit band Embrace). The evening will be accompanied with an auction containing some fabulous one o items, donated by artists and local businesses. It’s certainly sure to be an entertaining evening!
